I've been looking at the interesting coat colour of 'Montana' (Aztecs Painted Queen x Gabriel's Ghost) and decided that she is a little different to a 'black' foal. Her coat is a 'silvery' colour and her eyes are dark blue (which will change to brown)....time for a DNA test!
Results back confirm that she is 'smokey black' which is the action of one cream gene on a black horse and means she carries a cream gene!
This also means that it could only have come from Gabriel making him 'Smokey grullo' (grullo plus cream gene).

Took a trip to Bude today to see last years visiting mare 'Allsorts' and her new foal by Gabriel's Ghost. A super grullo and white tobiano colt with a huge personality! He has certainly inherited his sires friendly disposition and was happy to leave his mum and follow us around the field. Grullo foals are born a light mousey brown colour and he will be the colour of his dad when he looses his foal coat. A strong, straight and correct foal. Lovely!...Thanks for lunch Sian!

The breeding season is now in full swing and Gabriel is a very busy boy with visiting mares arriving and covering our own mares.
ADMS Sugar Patches (see broodmares page) has scanned in foal to Gabriel's Ghost for a March 2011 foal.
Irish Celtic Lass and Aztec's Painted Queen have both been covered and we will await scan results in a few weeks time!

We have had a fantastic start to our 2010 foaling season and I'm delighted that all of our foals have now arrived. 4 fillies!
The first foals by Gabriel's Ghost to be born are a bay and white tobiano filly out of our polo pony mare Quarryman Savannah, and a black and white tobiano filly out of Aztecs Painted Queen.
The APHA mare Irish Celtic Lass that was imported last summer from Montana had a lovely black and white tobiano filly by Nu Bars Bueno (QH) which will probably be retained as a future riding horse/broodmare as she will be an ideal cross for Gabriel . Really not sure if I can sell her!!
Previous Chapel Farm broodmare Chelseas Diamond was last to foal...another filly...this time by Pecas Bright Bar. (see foals 2007 and 2008 for her previous offspring). Zola and new baby Darcy are now owned by Gill Wilson and are kept here at Chapel Farm on livery.
